Crop Fires fuel air pollution in New Delhi: AQI 459, SEVERE
The image above is from Nasa's Fire Information Resource Management System (FIRMS) which highlights on ground fires using satellites from November 1-2 2023. Fire detection is performed using a contextual algorithm that reads the strong emission of mid-infrared radiation from fires. The NASA MODIS algorithm examines each pixel of the MODIS swath, and ultimately assigns to each pixel one of the following classes: missing data, cloud, water, non-fire, fire, or unknown. The red dots represent location of "fire" classes using the algorithm.
The information from September 1-2 2023, paints a completely different picture.
