CO2Day x COP27 Climate Change Conference

Meaningful change, as far as it relates to climate change, can take on many forms. Whether radical or incremental, individual or collaborative; the one thing that characterizes progress in this domain is movement. Till now, progress and movement have been associated with development, industry, and meeting economic goals regardless of the environmental consequences we face today.

One of the most promising approaches for change that we can benefit from today is through technological advancement. Humanity has already come too far with the destruction of the environment for simple behavioural course correction to be sufficient. For this reason, advancements in technology can support efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Ambee is one such company that works at the intersection of technology and climate change. It incorporates developing technologies such as AI and machine learning, with environmental data including, but not limited to, CO2 levels, air quality, and pollen spread that it collects through proprietary sensors. Ambee has already installed 65 sensors across Mumbai.

I had the privilege of interning with Ambee this past summer and have continued my involvement with them throughout my academic year. I identified Dominoes, a franchise with lots of geographical reach in the Delhi NCR region, as the perfect partner for Ambee. We installed a handful of sensors across Delhi over the summer, with the target to install 50 sensors. While Ambee's data is sold primarily to corporates that find the data useful, I would like to further examine ways in which Ambee's technology can be used for public policy purposes.

Since this is a project with consequences for the national population, and community health more generally, we resorted to fundraising initiatives to help finance it — with a goal of USD 100,000.

It is an honour to have been selected to attend the COP27 Climate Summit being held in Egypt this year, based on my work with Ambee, and this project. The United Nations Climate Change Conference has been a pioneer for movement in sustainability studies and climate change, evidenced by its role in drafting pivotal climate legislation such as The Brunswick Report, and the Paris Agreement. I look forward to engaging and being inspired by world leaders in climate and I hope to continue to make incremental progress towards our collective goal of net zero.
